  • April 29, 2016

The colloquium Translanguaging in Multilingual Urban Settings was held on 29 April 2016 at the Bibiothèque Royale de Belgique in Brussels. This colloquium was jointly organised by the Brussels Institute for Applied Linguistics (BIAL, Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Intercomm (Research Centre for Multilingual and Intercultural Communication, Ghent University) and GOLLD (Ghent on Language Learning and Didactics, Ghent University). It was co-funded by FWO, Brussels Studies Institute, the VUB Doctoral School of Human sciences and the VUB R&D Department.

The colloquium brought together six experts working on translanguaging in different European multilingual urban settings. The invited speakers approached the topic from various applied linguistic perspectives (e.g. sociolinguistics, language education, language planning, intercultural communication, literary translation) as they presented the methods and empirical results of their ongoing research.
